Armenian edit

Etymology edit

From Old Armenian վարակ (varak). Maybe a connection to Classical Persian باره (bāra, roten; infection) in بارۀ زبان (bāra-yi zabān, tongue infection) and بارۀ دندان (bāra-yi dandān, tooth rotten) [1]
