דרעמל
Yiddish edit
Alternative forms edit
- דרימל (driml)
Etymology edit
From Slavic, most likely as a partial calque of Polish drzemka, i.e. דרעם (drem) + ־ל (-l). Compare also Bulgarian дрямка (drjamka), Serbo-Croatian, Macedonian дремка (dremka).
Noun edit
דרעמל • (dreml) m, plural דרעמלען (dremlen) or דרעמלעך (dremlekh)
- a nap
Usage notes edit
- Note that despite the formation of the word using ־ל (-l), דרעמלעך (dremlekh) is very rare as a plural form.
