היפּש
Yiddish edit
Etymology edit
Cognate to German hübsch (“pretty, handsome”), from Middle High German hübesch (“courtly”), thus a doublet of הויף (hoyf). For the semantic development, compare English pretty, German schön (especially ganz schön).
