اِسْتَغْرَقَ (istaḡraqa) X, non-past يَسْتَغْرِقُ‎ (yastaḡriqu)

  1. to absorb; to engross; to overpower
  2. to take, to take up; to occupy (time)
    أَحْيَانًا تَسْتَغْرِقُ ٱلْمُحَادَثَةُ ٱلْهَاتِفِيَّةُ أَكْثَرَ مِنْ سَاعَةٍ.
    ʔaḥyānan tastaḡriqu l-muḥādaṯatu l-hātifiyyatu ʔakṯara min sāʕatin.
    Sometimes the phone conversation takes more than an hour.
    اِسْتَغْرَقَتِ ٱلرِّحْلَةُ شَهْرَيْنِ لِلْوُصُولِ إِلَى مَكَّةَ.
    istaḡraqati r-riḥlatu šahrayni lilwuṣūli ʔilā makkata.
    The journey took two months to reach Mecca.
