Inherited from Proto-Turkic *iriŋ (pus);[1] cognate with Azerbaijani irin, Bashkir эрен (eren), Kazakh ірің (ırıñ), Khakas ірінъ (ìrìnʺ), Kyrgyz ириң (iriŋ), Turkmen iriň, Tuvan ириң (iriñ), Uyghur يىرىڭ (yiring) and Uzbek yiring.
