Inherited from Proto-Turkic *baĺmak (shoe, slipper); cognate with Azerbaijani başmaq, Chuvash пушмак (pušmak), Kumyk башмакъ (başmaq), Southern Altai башмак (bašmak) and Tatar башмак (başmaq).
