Etymology 3

From Ancient Greek Βερενίκη (Bereníkē). Upon the marriage of Ptolemy III of the Ptolemaic Kingdom to Berenice II of Egypt who latter had born in the region the Pentapolis of the later Libya superior was refounded and the city formerly called Εὐεσπερίδες (Euesperídes) was renamed to this name and relocated to its current centre.
