The ending can be identified with the Mongolic plant name suffix ᠭᠠᠨᠠ (-ɣana) / -гана (-gana), however the rest is unexplained. Also frequent in Kipchak طوطرغان (tuturğan, tutarğan) and found in Old Turkic [script needed] (tuturkan) and Khorezmian Turkic تتورغان (tuturğan), تاتورغان (taturğan) (in نهج الفراديس). Now Mongolian тутарга (tutarga).
