From Persian زردخانه (zarad-xâne, literally armshouse), compound of the Arabic زَرَد (zarad, armour) and Persian خانه (xâne, house). Akin to Georgian ზარადხანა (zaradxana), ზარდახანა (zardaxana), Middle Armenian զառատխանայ (zaṙatxanay).
