From dialectal Arabic, eventually from Late Latin hospitale. Compare Algerian Arabic سبيطار (sbīṭār), Maltese sptar, South Levantine Arabic إسبيطار (isbīṭār) (Galilee), South Levantine Arabic سْبِيتَار (sbītār) (Palestine), Omani Arabic سبيتار (sbītār) and Gulf Arabic سبيتار (sbītār).
