From Proto-Iranian *gah- (to gorge), from Proto-Indo-Iranian *gʰas- (to eat, gorge), of unknown origin. Cognate with Avestan 𐬔𐬀𐬵 (gah, to gorge), Sanskrit घस् (ghas, to eat); see the Sanskrit for more.[1]
