Borrowed from Aramaic כרתא / ܟܪܬܐ (karrāṯā), from Akkadian 𒂵𒆜𒊬 (GA.KASKALSAR, GA.RAŠSAR /⁠karašu⁠/), from Sumerian 𒂵𒆜𒊬 (GA.KASKALSAR, GA.RAŠSAR /⁠garaš⁠/). Also Hebrew כְּרֵשָׁה (kərēšā́).
