1. phrase used when communicating a just-remembered thought or piece of information

   ܐܸܠܵܐ ܐܵܡܪܸܢ ܠܘܿܟ݂ ܩܸܡ ܚܵܙܹܝܢ ܠܹܗ ܬܸܡܵܠܝ

   illā āmrin lōḵ qim ḥāzēn lēh timmāl

   I have to tell you, I saw him yesterday.

2. actually, as a matter of fact, in fact

   ܐܸܠܵܐ ܐܵܡܪܸܢ ܠܘܿܟ݂ ܠܵܐ ܝܘܸܢ ܚܸܙܝܹܗ ܡ̣ܢ ܗ̇ܘ ܝܲܘܡܵܐ ― illā āmrin lōḵ lā ìwen ḥizyēh min awa yawmā ― Actually, I haven’t seen him since that day.

Usage notes

• This form is used by a male speaker towards a male speaker. Female speakers will begin with ܐܵܡܪܲܢ (āmran). When directed towards a female, ܠܵܟ݂ܝ (lāḵ) will be used, and when directed towards a group, ܠܲܘܟ݂ܘܿܢ (lawḵōn) will be used.
