From ܝܼܗܘܼܕ݂ (īhūḏ, Judea), from Biblical Hebrew יְהוּדָה (yəhûḏâ) +‎ -ܝܐ (-āyā, the attributive adjective ending); compare Arabic يَهُودِيّ (yahūdiyy) and Hebrew יְהוּדִי (yəhûḏî).
