1 term |
A reduplicated form from ܛܵܡܸܫ (ṭāmiš, “to dip”). The sense of “to stall” originally comes from a figurative usage of the first sense “to wet one’s feet”, where stalling was compared to dipping one’s feet in water, rather than altogether getting in; completing the action.
