From Aramaic נֲשַׁק (năšaq), from Proto-Semitic *našaq- (to be in close contact, to be joined together); cognate Hebrew נָשַׁק (nasháq), נִשֵּׁק (nishék), Arabic نَسَقَ (nasaqa, to be touching closely or attached) and Akkadian 𒉈𒅢 (/⁠našāqu⁠/, to kiss).
