Etymology

Semi-learned borrowing from Classical Syriac equivalent to a contraction of ܥܕ݂ܲܡܵܐ (ˁḏammā, “until”) +‎ ܡ̣ܢ (min, “from”) +‎ ܗܵܫܵܐ (hāšā, “now”).

   ܥܕ݂ܲܡܸܫ ܟܹܐ ܡܲܚܒܸܬ ܠܝܼ؟ ― ˁḏammiš kē maḥbit lī? ― Do you still love me?

   ܥܕ݂ܲܡܸܫ ܝܼܘܸܢ ܐܵܟ݂ܵܐ. ― ˁḏammiš īwen āḵā. ― I’m still here.

2. yet, thus far, up to the present
