Etymology edit

Inherited from Prakrit 𑀅𑀲𑀻𑀇 (asīi), from Sanskrit अशीति (aśīti); the origin of the initial ā- is unknown,[1] but it may be a hypercorrect imitation of continental Middle Indic.
