Inherited from Old Marathi 𑘄𑘝𑘨𑘜𑘹 (utaraṇe), 𑘄𑘝𑘿𑘝𑘨𑘜𑘹 (uttaraṇe), from Maharastri Prakrit 𑀉𑀢𑁆𑀢𑀭𑀇 (uttaraï), from Sanskrit उत्तरति (uttarati, to alight, descend). Cognate with Gujarati ઊતરવું (ūtarvũ), Hindi उतरना (utarnā), Punjabi ਉੱਤਰਨਾ (uttarnā) / اُتّرنا (uttarnā), Sinhalese උතුරනවා (uturanawā).
