Inherited from Old Marathi 𑘌𑘩𑘏𑘜𑘹 (olakhaṇe), from Maharastri Prakrit 𑀉𑀯𑀮𑀓𑁆𑀔𑁂𑀇 (uvalakkhei), from Sanskrit उपलक्षयति (upalakṣayati). Compare Gujarati ઓળખવું (oḷkhavũ), Sindhi اوکاڻڻُ / ओखाणणु.
