editInherited from Old Marathi 𑘎𑘳𑘨𑘿𑘮𑘰𑘚 f (kurhāḍa), 𑘎𑘳𑘨𑘿𑘮𑘰𑘚𑘲 f (kurhāḍī) (compare 𑘎𑘳𑘨𑘿𑘮𑘰𑘚𑘰 m (kurhāḍā)), from Maharastri Prakrit 𑀓𑀼𑀠𑀸𑀭 (kuḍhāra), 𑀓𑀼𑀳𑀸𑀟 (kuhāḍa), from Sanskrit कुठार (kuṭhāra) (see there for more). Cognate with Gujarati કુહાડો (kuhāḍo), કુહાડી (kuhāḍī), Hindustani کُلْہَاڑَا (kulhāṛā) / कुल्हाड़ा (kulhāṛā), کُلْہَاڑِی (kulhāṛī) / कुल्हाड़ी (kulhāṛī), Sindhi ڪُهاڙو / कुहाड़ो, ڪُهاڙيِ / कुहाड़ी, Punjabi ਕੁਹਾੜਾ (kuhāṛā) / کُہاڑا (kuhāṛā), ਕੁਹਾੜੀ (kuhāṛī) / کُہاڑی (kuhāṛī), Bengali কুড়াল (kuṛal).
