Verb edit

तृप्यति (tṛ́pyati) third-singular present indicative (root तृप्, class 4, type P)

  1. (with genitive, instrumental, or rarely locative case) to be satisfied, content, pleased
    • c. 700 CE – 900 CE, Bhāgavata Purāṇa 3.14.4:
      श्रद्दधानाय भक्ताय ब्रूहि तज्जन्मविस्तरम्। ऋषे न तृप्यति मनः परं कौतूहलं हि मे॥
śraddadhānāya bhaktāya brūhi tajjanmavistaram. ṛṣe na tṛpyati manaḥ paraṃ kautūhalaṃ hi me.
My mind has become very inquisitive, and it is not satisfied with hearing the narration of the Lord’s appearance. Therefore, speak more and more to a devotee who is faithful.
    • c. 700 CE – 900 CE, Bhāgavata Purāṇa 11.26.14:
      सेवतो वर्षपूगान्मे उर्वश्या अधरासवम्। न तृप्यत्य्आत्मभूः कामो वह्निराहुतिभिर्यथा॥
sevato varṣapūgānme urvaśyā adharāsavam. na tṛpyatyātmabhūḥ kāmo vahnirāhutibhiryathā.
Even after I had served the so-called nectar of the lips of Urvaśī for many years, my lusty desires kept rising again and again within my heart and never satisfied, just like a fire that can never be extinguished by the oblations of ghee poured into its flames.
    • c. 700 CE – 900 CE, Bhāgavata Purāṇa 3.5.7:
      क्रीडन् विधत्ते द्विजगोसुराणां क्षेमाय कर्माण्यवतारभेदैः। मनो न तृप्यत्य्अपि श‍ृण्वतां नः सुश्लोकमौलेश्चरितामृतानि॥
krīḍan vidhatte dvijagosurāṇāṃ kṣemāya karmāṇyavatārabhedaiḥ. mano na tṛpyatyapi śa‍ृṇvatāṃ naḥ suślokamauleścaritāmṛtāni.
You may narrate also about the auspicious characteristics of the Lord in his different incarnations for the welfare of the twice-born, the cows and the demigods. Our minds satisfy not, inspite of continuously hearing of his transcendental activities.
    • c. 700 CE – 900 CE, Bhāgavata Purāṇa 10.49.26:
      धृतराष्ट्र उवाच
      यथा वदति कल्याणीं वाचं दानपते भवान्। तथानया न तृप्यामि मर्त्यः प्राप्य यथामृतम्॥
      dhṛtarāṣṭra uvāca
yathā vadati kalyāṇīṃ vācaṃ dānapate bhavān. tathānayā na tṛpyāmi martyaḥ prāpya yathāmṛtam.
Said Dhṛtarāṣṭra: O master of charity, I can be satisfied not while hearing your auspicious words. Indeed, I am like a mortal who has obtained the nectar of the gods.
  2. (with ablative case) to enjoy
