From Proto-Indo-Aryan *dawṣáH, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *dawšáH, from Proto-Indo-European *dowséh₂. Cognate with Avestan 𐬛𐬀𐬊𐬱 (daoš, night, last night) and Classical Persian دوش (dōš, last night).
