Etymology edit

Inherited from Old Marathi 𑘢𑘩𑘜𑘹 (palaṇe), 𑘢𑘰𑘩𑘜𑘹 (pālaṇe), 𑘢𑘰𑘯𑘜𑘹 (pāḷaṇe), from Maharastri Prakrit 𑀧𑀸𑀮𑁂𑀇 (pālei), from Sanskrit पालयति (pāláyati). Cognate with Gujarati પાળવું (pāḷvũ), Hindustani پَالْنَا (pālnā) / पालना (pālnā), Nepali पाल्नु (pālnu), Punjabi ਪਾਲਣਾ (pālṇā) / پالݨا (pālṇā).
