Inherited from Old Marathi 𑘣𑘳𑘩𑘜𑘹 (phulaṇe), from Maharastri Prakrit 𑀨𑀼𑀮𑁆𑀮𑀇 (phullaï), from Sanskrit फुल्लति (phullati). Related to फूल (phūl, flower). Cognate with Gujarati ફૂલવું (phūlvũ), Hindustani پُھولْنَا (phūlnā) / फूलना (phūlnā), Sindhi ڦُلَڻُ / फुलणु, Punjabi ਫੁੱਲਣਾ (phullaṇā) / پھُلّݨا (phullṇā), Nepali फुल्नु (phulnu), Maithili फुलब (phulab) / 𑒤𑒳𑒪𑒥 (phulaba), Odia ଫୁଲିବା (phuliba), Bengali ফুলা (phula), Assamese ফুলা (phula).
