Inherited from Sanskrit भाटक (bhāṭaka). Cognate with Gujarati ભાડું (bhāḍũ), Hindi भाड़ा (bhāṛā), Sindhi ڀَاڙو / भाड़ो (bhāṛo), Punjabi ਭਾੜਾ (bhāṛā) / بھاڑا (bhāṛā), Nepali भाडा (bhāḍā).
