Inherited from Old Marathi 𑘥𑘰𑘭𑘜𑘹 (bhāsaṇe), from Maharastri Prakrit 𑀪𑀸𑀲𑀇 (bhāsaï), from Sanskrit भासति (bhā́sati). Cognate with Gujarati ભાસવું (bhāsvũ), Hindi भासना (bhāsnā), Sindhi ڀاسڻُ / भासणु.
