मनोकामना
Hindi edit
Alternative forms edit
Etymology edit
From मनो- (mano-, “mind, heart”) + कामना (kāmnā, “desire”), from Sanskrit मनस् (manas) + कामना (kāmanā), deriving from the roots मन् (man) and कम् (kam), respectively. Such a formation is not possible in Sanskrit; mánas and kāmanā would normally yield *manaskāmanā or *manaḥkāmanā. Rarely, but sometimes written also as मनस्कामना and मनःकामना, restoring Sanskrit sandhi rules and making the word look Sanskrit-like.
