Inherited from Old Marathi 𑘨𑘰𑘎𑘜𑘹 (rākaṇe), 𑘨𑘰𑘏𑘜𑘹 (rākhaṇe), from Maharastri Prakrit 𑀭𑀓𑁆𑀔𑀇 (rakkhaï), from Sanskrit रक्षति (rákṣati). Doublet of रक्षणे (rakṣaṇe).
