Borrowed from Classical Persian خرگوش (xargōš), from Middle Persian 𐭤𐭫𐭢𐭥𐭱 (xar-gōš, rabbit, hare). Compare Hindustani خرگوش / ख़रगोश (xargoś), Punjabi خرگوش (xrgoś) / ਖ਼ਰਗੋਸ਼ (xargoś) and Gujarati ખરગોશ (khargoś).
