Inherited from Sanskrit শাটী (śāṭī), শাটিকা (śāṭikā), feminine forms of শাট (śāṭa, “garment”). Cognate with Nepali साडी (sāḍī), Hindi साड़ी (sāṛī), and Gujarati સાડી (sāḍī). Doublet of শাল (śal).
