Inherited from Middle Gujarati दाडम (dāḍama), from Old Gujarati दाडिमि (dāḍimi), from Sanskrit दाडिम (dāḍima), an areal Kulturwort of obscure origin. Cognate with Assamese ডালিম (dalim), Odia ଡାଳିମ୍ବ (ḍaḷimbô), Rajasthani दाड़म (dāṛam) and Sindhi ڏاڙهۇن (ḍ̠āṛhū̃).
