Inherited from Prakrit 𑀳𑀡𑀇 (haṇaï), from Sanskrit हनति (hanati). Cognate with Hindi हनना (hannā), Marathi 𑘮𑘜𑘜𑘹𑘽 (haṇṇẽ), and Sindhi 𑋞𑋌𑋌𑋣 (haṇaṇu).
