From சொள்ளு (coḷḷu), from சொள் (coḷ, “drool”), from சுள் (cuḷ, “pungent”). Cognate with Telugu చొల్లు (collu), Kannada ಜೊಲ್ಲು (jollu) and Tulu ಜೊಲ್ಲೆ (jolle).
