Etymology

Perhaps from the Dravidian word "kōṇḍ" meaning "hills". Used first by the Mughal dynasty in the 16th–18th centuries meaning "hill people", to refer to the group. Compare Khond, the exonym for Kui-Kuvis and Kondas, another Dravidian people group.
