From Sanskrit पद्म (padma, lotus) + आसन (āsana, seat, chair; sitting, way of sitting) +‎ -ము (-mu).

పద్మాసనము (padmāsanamu? (plural పద్మాసనములు)

  1. (yoga) A sitting posture (lotus position) used in religious meditation in which the Buddha statues are represented. It is so called because Vishnu is represented in that posture when throned on a lotus.
