Etymology 1

Inherited from Proto-Dravidian *tēnkk- (“teak”). Cognate with Kannada ತೇಗ (tēga), Kuvi ଟେଁକି (ṭē̃ki), Kolami తేక్ (tēk), Gondi తేక (tēka), Tamil தேக்கு (tēkku), Tulu ತೆಕ್ಕಿ (tekki) and Telugu తేకు (tēku).
