Etymology

From Proto-Sino-Tibetan *na-(n/t) (sick; evil spirit). Cognate with Jingpho nat (spirit, ancestral spirit). Doublet of နာ (na, hurt; sick).

Alternatively, it could be borrowed from Pali nātha (protector).[1]
