From Proto-Sino-Tibetan *s-r(j)a-j/s/t. Cognate with Tibetan བཞད (bzhad, to laugh, smile), Nuosu (yy, to laugh, smile), and Lisu ꓪꓽ ꓫꓱꓻ (wɑ̀ ʃø, to laugh).
