From Proto-Tai *sajꟲ (intestine). Cognate with Thai ไส้ (sâi), Lao ໄສ້ (sai), Northern Thai ᩈᩱ᩶, ᦺᦉᧉ (ṡay²), Aiton ꩬႝ (say), Phake ꩬႝ (say), Ahom 𑜏𑜩 (say), Tai Dam ꪼꪎ꫁, Zhuang saej. Compare Proto-Be *tseːᴮꟲ².
