edit- კეშ (ḳeš)
Etymology
editAccording to Čuxua, from *კეჩ- (*ḳeč-), from Proto-Kartvelian *ḳec₁-. Compare Old Georgian ჩჳლ-კეცი (čwil-ḳeci, “crustacean”), კეცოვანი (ḳecovani, “new hard leather; hard shell (tortoiseshell, mother-of-pearl, cuttlefish”), კეც-ტყავი (ḳec-ṭq̇avi, id.), ჩუდ-კეცი (čud-ḳeci, “robe, cloak”).
Less reliable is the alleged connection of the supposed Zan *კაშ- (*ḳaš-), which, according to Čuxua, is extractable from Georgian surname კაშია (ḳašia). შ ← *ჩ (š ← *č) is not unheard of in Zan, but is nevertheless rather uncommon. He derives Old Armenian կաշի (kaši, “hide, skin, leather”) from the unattested Zan cognate.
Compare also Chechen къерс-иг (qʼers-ig, “coarse, hardened leather”), кӏерс-иг (kʼers-ig), Ingush къерс-иг (qʼers-ig).
