ᚺᚨᚷᛁᚱᚨᛞᚨᛉ
Proto-Norse
editEtymology
editFirst element from Proto-Germanic *hagiz, *hagaz (“able, capable”), same as Old Norse hagr (Icelandic hagur). Second element *ᚱᚨᛞᚨᛉ (rādaz) is from Proto-Germanic *rēdaz (“advice, counsel”), same as in ᚠᚱᚨᚹᚨᚱᚨᛞᚨᛉ (frawaradaʀ) and Old High German Kuonirāt. Note the common North-West Germanic shift of Proto-Germanic *ē to *ā.
