Etymology edit

From Angkorian Old Khmer prāk, derived from Old Khmer បាក់ (pak, to break) with infix -r-. Compare with Arabic فضة (fiḍḍa, silver), from the root ف ض ض (f-ḍ-ḍ) which forms words relating to "removing", "breaking", and Proto-Finnic *hopëda (soft, brittle).
