Etymology edit

From Proto-Southwestern Tai *mlɛːŋᴬ (insect), from Proto-Tai *m.leːŋᴬ (insect), from Middle Chinese 螟蛉 (MC meng leng, “caterpillar”).[1] Cognate with Thai แมลง (má-lɛɛng, insect), Thai แมง (mɛɛng, arachnid), Zhuang nengz.
