Etymology edit
From Proto-Southwestern Tai *mlɛːŋᴬ (“insect”), from Proto-Tai *m.leːŋᴬ (“insect”), from Middle Chinese 螟蛉 (MC meng leng, “caterpillar”).[1] Cognate with Thai แมลง (má-lɛɛng, “insect”), Thai แมง (mɛɛng, “arachnid”), Zhuang nengz.
