Borrowed from Old Javanese wuku (a period of seven days, literally section (of bamboo, etc) between the joints; grain, seed), from Proto-Malayo-Polynesian *bukuh. Doublet of ᬩᬸᬓᬸ (buku). Cognate to Indonesian buku, Javanese ꦮꦸꦏꦸ (wuku).
