Maybe connected with ἀμαλός (amalós, soft, bland), ἀμβλίσκω (amblískō, to be abortive, to go blind), or ἀμαλδύνω (amaldúnō, to destroy, weaken) (<< Proto-Indo-European *ml̥dus (soft, weak)), but none of these associations are strong.
