Along with ἄφνω (áphnō, suddenly), possibly from Proto-Indo-European *abʰ-, shared with Sanskrit अह्नाय (ahnāya, instantly, at once). However, compare Proto-Germanic *abraz (strong, extreme, severe) and *ganhuz (quick, fast).
