ἰξύς
Ancient Greek
editEtymology
editThe formation is similar to ὀσφῦς (osphûs), δελφύς (delphús) and νηδύς (nēdús). Etymological relation with Latin īlia (“side of the body”) is improbable. Furnée proposed to connect ἰσχίον (iskhíon, “hip”); if correct, the word is Pre-Greek because of the variation.
