editFrom Demotic ḥlm (“cheese”). Most likely borrowed from a Semitic language, probably a form similar to *ḥallāmaw; compare Arabic حَلَمَة (ḥalama, “nipple”), but also note Egyptian ẖnmt (“wet-nurse”).
