Borrowed from Ancient Greek φαραώ (pharaṓ, “Pharaoh”), in turn borrowed from Biblical Hebrew פַּרְעֹה, itself a borrowing from Egyptian
(pr-ꜥꜣ). Cognate to Coptic ⲡⲟⲩⲣⲟ (pouro) (Bohairic); ⲟⲩⲣⲟ (ouro) (Bohairic), ⲣⲣⲟ (rro) (Sahidic); ⲟⲩⲣⲱ (ourō) (Bohairic), ⲣⲣⲱ (rrō) (Sahidic).
